Ordering a "BT" Line for the first time ...

Having moved from a Cable (VM) area into a BT area I had been scouting about for the best priced package for a home phone as I only want to get the broadband setup, from o2.

We had seen the Post Office Home Phone, for £11.95 a month you got alot, including the line rental, so I had put in for this over the phone... this morning I receive a letter saying unfortunatly they cannot provide me with a line as I had failed the credit check!

Anyone got any ideas how I could get one asap as I'm really stuck without "proper" internet to use at home.

Currently using the tethering on my iPhone to get online at the moment.

I know there are some people from BT on here, so even that please let me know if you are able to offer me anything in the terms of this ... First time I've been declined and it's a horrible feeling!

Thanks in advance,
Stephen

There is a free installation offer from BT which I believe ends in December- you dont pay the £122.50 of which you have to sign into an 18month contract for this. check BT site for more details on this. Good luck

See HERE (but ignore the reference to the 30th September end date).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks for the replys,

We already have the actual phone terminal there which is all in one piece.
I was meaning to say about these credit checks, I had virgin services installed at our previous cable address passed fine, I don't actually think I have a credit file, the only thing I have is my contract for the iPhone.

Just a bit puzzled why the Post Office home phone deal declined me... or if anyone knows of any offers where they are not soo strict. This is our first home in a BT area and I'm finding it near enough impossible to simply get a home phone activated at our house :(
