River Island - returns

Options
I bought a pair of shoes from River Island for £35 3 weeks ago and have worn them apx 3 times for 2-3 hours

sitting yesterday i noticed they had started to come away from the sole - so today i took them back in the box with the receipt

the girl kept me waiting at the counter with a huge queue whilst they asked about for someone who i presume is the manager

each time the girl showed the damage to the other staff who glanced over to have a look at me

one of them had the cheek to say "does she just want another pair"

i was really upset by this whole incident

yes - i did just want a replacement pair

but what if i didnt? i am surely entitled to my money back regardless - the shoes were faulty   :o

You are entitled to a repair or replacement. Because it was some time before the fault appeared.

    Hi,

There is no specified length of time in which you have to return faulty goods though it is on you to prove that they were faulty at the time of purchase. However if it is only 3 weeks since you got them I should of thought that they would replace them - what did they do?

3 weeks is not 'some time' to have a pair of shoes, you could have got your money back.

Wig - im not being rude but you do seem to give out advice in this thread but they seem to be just your opinions and in most cases I have seen you are wrong.

In this situation I would expect RI to give a full refund if you asked, or replace them if you wanted.

I was in there last weekend looking at shoes myself and the salesgirl was very attentive and seemed very keen to sell, unlike any of the other 10 shops I looked in. I was almost sold but their prices were higher than most other places.

I bought some must nicer and more comfortable for 25% less in another store in the end.

If they gave me hassle like this I would kick up a fuss and get a refund and write to their HQ to complain at the bad service. If they push hard for sales then I would of thought a scene at the cash desk would be the last thing they want. Esp as it's obvious they are in the wrong.

you are perfectly within your rights to ask for a refund if that is what you want after only 3 weeks.

actually the onus is on the seller to prove that the fault was NOT there at the time of purchase, not the other way round (although either seem pretty difficult to prove to me).

I had a similar problem in new look once where all the thread had come away on a pair of trousers, the snotty manageress refused point blank to give me my money back (as she obviously thought the same thing) then had the cheek to say she would give me money for cotton and thread - i told her i would accept this as long as she would do the sewing for which i would bring them back to her - she didnt like this reply (cant think why LOL) anyway i refused to leave and got louder and louder and suggested she call her head office as I was going nowhere without a refund - the look onher face when she had to come back through and refund me was pure class!!!
