  • it sounds like it was the electronic speed controller you blew up.

these always come with explicit instructions saying to disconect the battery as soon as you have finished running the car.

when you turn the car off there is still some power going to the e.s.c., failing to disconnect the battery will result in the power left in the battery build up resistance in the e.s.c. and blowing the circuit board. also leaving the battery connected results in the battery totaly draining, if that happens you will be unable to charge it back up, you need to stop and disconnect as soon as the car starts to slow down, again this will be in the instructions.

if you want to get into the hobby, please read up on what to do and how to use your equipment, i've raced r.c. cars for 25 years and only ever blown 2 speed controllers.

hope you enjoy your car from now on:beer:

I was wondering if it could be something like that bigoggy.

So basically shop has said the OP has damaged the car through improper use and it is not a warranty issue.

Sounds like the rotary clothes dryer I broke straight out the box by being to forceful with it, fortunately had the paart from the old one. ...........:o
  • I really just want a peaceful resolution but his fixing, throwing away part and wanting to charge me without authorisation irks me and makes any further claims difficult.
When I last went to shop I noted that it was very empty compared to other visits so he may have other issues - which may explain his mildy agressive tone on the phone.

I'm prepared to offer £20 - half the amount get my car and walk away now so we are all happy.
    I think this is reasonable.
I really don't want to bother with emails, letters, trading standards, small claims etc - life's too short.

They know the only way for you to remedy the situation is to take them to court, and lets be honest for £39 you are not going to do that, no matter what you might say when you are angry.

    Why not?

I have been there for less and won, assuming the claimant wins, then the court costs are paid by the defendant so no loss of money, just depends if they are prepared to involve the time needed, which should not be very long.

Personally I would do so if the retailer will not play ball, sounds to me like the product is "not fit for purpose" and "not of satisfactory quality", as per the SoGA, assuming we have been given ALL the relevant facts.

I would. Infact I'd take them to court for a lot less out of principle. If I won the case then the defendant would be responsible for paying all my fees so I wouldn't be out of pocket at all, and actually having filed a court claim I can tell you it's quite easy.

The only point I wouldn't bother was if I wasn't confident I'd win.
