RAC Renewal scam
I just received my RAC renewal letter this morning which including the 10% No call out discount increase my annual premium by around 20p. However, I called the RAC and took the telephone option ' thinking about leaving the RAC' and told the operator that considering cash back sites and their competitors offers, could they better the renewal figure. In less than 5 minutes my annual premium reduced from £106.65 to £65.81 and this worked out at £5.48/ month for 12 months for the same level of cover.GOOD OR WHAT!!!:j

Yes, very good - but why was this a "scam". They gave you a clear price, you didn't like it, you 'phoned them, they reduced it - hardly a "scam".0

How is this a scam?
You were told what it would cost and got a discount when you asked about a retention offer. Lots of companies do this e.g mobile phone companies.
If you are happy paying £65.81 per year, good for you.
e.g Autoaid offer annual cover for just £37.00
Not quite on the same basis, but possibly the same end result depending on what you are after

its a tax on the lazy/thick0

Not another scam " Scam " thread.
They rarely are actual scams.0 -
The 'scam' is that the vast majority of people in this country are duped into believing that they are getting value for money when their renewal figure is given. The scam is also that most are duped into believing that the 10% 'no call out discount' is saving them money. The scam is that RAC can evidently afford to supply the same service for around 20% of the original cost. The true scam is that not everybody is on this site!! and therefore don't know.Your replies tell me that you are more interested in judging the impressiveness of the thread ( in your estimation or experience).
Is this forum about sharing moneysaving ideas or judging whos the best money saver?
For the person who says 'its a tax on the lazy or the thick'-What about the hard working, intelligent masses that expect a fair deal regardless of wether they are internet surfers or not. Maybe, most people work too hard to warrant spending endless hours on the net trying to save a penny or two? Like you and I.0 -
'Scandal' better?0

So Tesco are a scam too are they? And Asda? Anid Sainsburys?
They all claim to have the lowest prices - they can't all be right.
What about John Lewis who claim they are never knowingly undersold? Perhaps not knowingly, but I wonder how hard they actually look? I'm sure I could find a cheaper item somewhere compared to what JL sell it for.
A scam is when you are you are deprived of by deceipt, defrauded or suffered embezzlement, etc.
A scandal is a disgarceful event.
Neither really apply in this case. You were given a price and it was up to you to decide whether to accept that price, reject that price or haggle."Now to trolling as a concept. .... To the OP;
You would be well suited to work for the Daily Mail..
It is neither a " scam " nor a " scandal " if the quoted price for a service is legitimate, which in this case, it is.
The fact that the quoted price can often be beaten or reduced, does not make any difference to the legitimacy of the original price.0 -
Its like Lewie all over again except it is the RAC and not the AA! :rolleyes:0
