Royal Mail Sending My Post Back Marked “Addressee Has Gone Away” For No Reason

Yesterday morning I got a phone call from my mortgage company asking if they could check my details were correct. They told me that they had just had my mortgage statement returned to them marked “addressee has gone away”. I have lived at the same address for the last 8 years. My letter box is easily accessible, I have no dogs or anything else that might prevent the postman (or lady) from delivering my mail. I don’t even have a front garden, my front door is right on the street!

It’s not like this is some junk mail or something that I wouldn’t miss, this was from my mortgage company. Royal Mail has basically just told my mortgage company who I obviously owe a lot of money to that I have moved. It was a good job I was available when they rang, I can’t even start to think about all the problems this mistake could have caused to my credit history etc.

Thats's probably is the case. There just must be some better wording than "addressee has gone away". Makes it sound like I have moved elsewhere.

TBH the problem can be you get loads of undeliverable items a day
depends on the duty but im all tenement stairs so can easily have 100+ items a day to return so getting the specific tick box is a time consuming job.
often its a case of everything is AGA unless its something out of the ordinary

i had the same myself when they built a new complex next to my old place
new place was the same name as ours but with lane after it
things got misaddressed to them and so were returned as gone away as the tenants there didnt know me (obviously as i didnt live there lol)
ended up getting my next account frozen due to returned mail

I've had my bank account frozen for exactly this reason and o2 money report that my pin number was returned to them as undeliverable. It's gotta be easier than actually delivering mail.
