What fares have you found so far?

Have a look at Megatrain for the Portsmouth-London part.
  • Im managing to find cheap tickets up to london waterloo, that site mega train can do it for 90p on a friday night, but do they not run on sundays for a return journey, because i cant find that to get back :S ? its just when i get to waterloo, its finding a cheap way of getting to high wycombe as you have to get a tube/train/bus etc. Im not a pro on public transport im afraid!
    Thanks for helping :)

You can get cheap advance tickets on the Southern site from London Victoria (not Waterloo) to Portsmouth and v/v with fares starting at £2 each way with a railcard. A rather longer journey though

Having said that Sunday availability is very limited - the last train (2115) only from Victoria on a few dates I've looked at

You could look at Greyhound buses as well

London Marylebone - High Wycombe : Chiltern Trains e-tickets, book on their website only, start at £2.60 each way with a railcard. You print out your ticket or have it sent to your mobile phone. Even this weekend availability is OK.

Why not consider the Greyhound bus from The Hard to London Victoria for 99p then a train from there?

And just a few moments ago a National Express coaches leaflet dropped through my letter box offering a ride to Victoria from Portsmouth for 99p.

Plenty of competion on this route now. Megabus (rather than Megatrain) are also playing.

Btw: Not splitting hairs, but Greyhound coach fare is £1 plus booking fee.;)
  • Ah thanks guys, and that was good timing by the post man :D ill have a look around :) !

Also have a look at getting a cross country and changing at Banbury. It may be a long way round but if you have a railcard then you should be able to pick it up quite cheap..

ive just had a look on my ticket machine and you will change twice if you leave from fratton which is only just up from you and then at southampton. cheapest without a railcard for a single was £46.

cant imagine a return will be much dearer and you dont have to go through london and journey times roughly the same

EDIT: Looking into it further, you may have to buy split tickets as its not recognising that as a valid route on my machien so check onlin for a ticket to banbury via southampton and then frrom there down to high wycomebe(do this leg on chilterns website for some cheaper deals too)
