Marriages and divorce - long vs short time

Hi
We often see it mentioned on here that 'if we split up, will he/I claim 50% of all my worldly goods'? Bossyboots has clarified this several times as 'a starting point'.
Apparently this principle of 50/50 was only established in 2002 and only then for 'long marriages'.
This is all going to be contested in the settlement of Sir Paul McCartney and his estranged wife - see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4993862.stm
Sir Paul got married in 2002, the same year that DH and I were married. 4 years is apparently called a 'short marriage'.
I told DH just now that I want 50% of all he has. 'OK' he says, 'you can have my muddy football boots'.
The day he ever again has football boots, muddy or otherwise, will be a day of celebration, not separation!

Surely if you get 50%, you get one muddy boot? :rotfl:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

There's a case coming up very shortly which will be a test of who gets what, can't remember the case name. Paul and whatsername won't be divorcing for two years - unless she divorces him for doing something horrible, in which case I think she can apply tomorrow if she wants to.0

I rather gathered it might be the other way around although I do know better than to believe what the papers say really.0 -
Tell him he can keep the old boots as long as you get the studs...margaretclare wrote:I told DH just now that I want 50% of all he has. 'OK' he says, 'you can have my muddy football boots'.0
