I can't help feeling your consultant should not be making you responsible for doing this.Could you check it out with, say, nhs direct?.

    Thanks Optimist,

That information may prove invaluable depending on the response from the company.

    Hi Hollydays,

I also feel quite let down by this.

My son has recently been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. He is 14.

We have had no history of heart problems in the family and his brother and two sisters have been given the all clear.

The consultants could offer no reason for this condition so I set about doing as much research as I knew how and found what is a plausible and possible cause.

I put it down to a drug that my wife took during pregnancy. I contacted the hospital and informed them of my findings and was invited to a meeting. The two hour meeting was inconclusive as I have already said, he just said that he did not know if I was correct or incorrect and to contact the makers.

This guy was a genetics specialist and admitted that not enough was known of the condition and the genetic implications. In a recent follow up letter he confirmed this and if I need to speak to him again, do not hesitate to contact. Whats the point. He has said he does not know.

I think I have been left on my own because I said that if my research is correct, I intend to seek substantial financial damages for my son. I dont think the doctor wanted to get involved.

I am just waing for the response from the drugs company but as yet, am unsure of my next step.

I am open to help and advice.

    Thank you,

    Scott.

A lot of this depends on what you have asked them. If you are making some sort of claim - or have indicated that you may do so - then the Pre-action Protocol for Personal Injury will apply.

You MUST get a specialist solicitor involved as already you are not complying with the Protocol - it applies both to Claimants and Defendants.

    Thanks Tozer,

I will seek a specialist solicitor immeadiately.

Good. Please make sure it is a specialist in this sort of thing. If you want me to use a Legal Directory to find out who is recommended in your area, PM me.

    Scott,

From this I understand we are talking about a drug taken 14 years ago which you think may have caused your son's condition.

Given you are stepping into the very murky waters of cause and effect you need to speak to a specialist solicitor. The rules around product liability etc are extremely complex and it's not the kind of area I think you can expect good advice from on a forum.

    Hi Tozer,

A law firm in London have just phoned about the enquiry I made online.

They could not help as it involved a minor but will get back in touch if he finds appropriate help.

I would certainly like your help but dont know how to PM.

    Scott.
