Should I be nervous about using a nationwide autocentre for a service/mot?

  • you cam belt should be done at about 35k miles, more if it a a diesil with a cam chain, for mots, take you car to mot centre, not a garage that just happen to do mots, some local council run there own mot centres, check with VOSA for a list of mot only centres, you will save a bomb gong to a mot centre that just does mots only,as a garage will be looking for work of you and will out to hit you with a bill.

get you car mot done,if you can do this one month before the current mot runs out, once your car has been tested,if it fail for anything you have 10 working days to get the wotk done to the car,you will not be charged a retest fee if you take the car back within the 10 days for its retest.they will only check what it failed on.

but like i said, find an mot centre that only does mot,s not repears,i have seen garages text cars and they really dig for faults,a mot oly centre do it by the book but are not as keen for your car to fail its test, believe me!!!
  • remember anti freeze this winter,my friend who owns his own garage makes a fortune every winter with people coming in saying there car wont start,it often means that the water pump was frozen in the morning and they tried to start the car, this puts massive tension on the cam belt often breaking it,but the car driver does not know this and keeps trying to start there car, result is damage to engine and a heavy bill.

so start topping up with antifreeze from now on,get something like unipart antifreeze/summer coolent all in one,and chck it every week.

    happy driving

I had a bad experience with them and won't use them again. I asked a taxi driver I know quite well to recommend a place. Their car is their workplace, so they always seem to know the best places to go :-)

If its an mot you want done why dont you go to a council mot testing centre to get it done, they cant to any repairs like others can but i believe they do tell you what needs replacing etc

I have used Nationwide for MOT's in the past and I have to say they have been brilliant. .

Snap, This year despite using a half price MOT voucher courtesy of TCB Nationwide Auto Centre still allowed me 10 working days to have stated MOT work done elsewhere without charging a partial retest fee. :T
  • The quality of national groups of car servicing centres is only as good as the staff they employ & some might be under pressure to increase sales & you do hear about work being invented.... but alot of garages are just the same theres good & theres the others much is down to luck.
I have used Halfords & they were good & Ive used local garages - I tend to go for whoever is doing the best MOT deal rather than pay the full wack charged by the councils depots but each to their own ....good luck !
Theres only two rules to remember
    1) Im always right

I avoid natioanl chains due to bad experiences

Frind of ours went into quick fit for a service & MOT & was told to pass it would take £800+ of further work

I took her too our lodal trusted garage who charged £150 inc a new MOT test

I would also watch the quick fit credit service as they really screwd my dad fro a late payment which was paid & cleared ontime

i wouldnt say the council ones charge full whack, ok so maybe they do but you only pay for the test and not any extras like other garages would do which would then end up costing more
