If you register your account online with Scottish Power they have a facility to allow you to inform them of your metre readings. I currently read the metres around the 1st of the month and enter these readings online.
I do this so basically so that Scottish Power can't issue me with estimated bills :eek:and also so that I can actually monitor how much gas and electricity we use monthly.:money:
Maybe this would help in the future ( I know it doesn't help clear your £780 bill at the moment).Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D
Every day is a new challenge not a new problem!:p
SW start 08/01/14 4/21lbs (1st target) :j0 -

My complaint is why they have left it so long and let the bill get so big before highlighting this fact to me, plus I think it could be incorrect, but I'm going to work it out now thanks to the help from hereMartin_McCarthy wrote: »Ah this sounds like a great way to do it! Many thanks
Strange that after not bothering to read your meters for a year, you now think that it's a good idea to read them monthly!
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
You appear to have fallen into the trap that many do that it must be cheaper to leave and go to a new supplier because you DD are lower, they are lower for a reason to hook you into a false sense of security
You should keep regularly meter readings and tell the supplier and also keep notes of this so when you compare you compare with how much you use rather than by payments0 -

Well after being hit with a large unexpected bill why would you think it strange?

Hi there
Yes your right and moving forward I will do this on a monthly basis...
Many thanks0 -
I'm sat here wondering what us 'utility-savvy' will have left to make us feel superior when everyone has a smart meter, lol.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Whilst I find people who get into this situation as rather stupid not to take charge of their usage and not check meter readings, I also have some sympathy if they are on old fashioned tariffs. Unless the customer has changed the tariff to one where they have to do the work, then it has been traditional for the companies to come round every 3 months and check the meter.
Now these companies cannot be bothered to come round and then they want to shirk responsibility for crap estimates or wrong readings.
You're going to have to pay, perhaps with some discount but should be given time.0 -
head stuck in the sand eh OP?
We are with sp and input our readings every month so that we can keep track of our expenditure. Don`t blame sp, blame yourself for not being on the ball re YOUR usage and costs0 -
