Really cheap UK to Ireland rail fares
I heard about this rail fare when two railway staff were talking on the train. One said put in Felixstowe to Dublin into your machine. Up came the fare including ferry crossing - £29!!! The standard single fare to London is more than that. I checked this myself and found that this worked for any station in Suffolk but bizarrely not Norfolk. For station in Norfolk the fare is £66.
It works in many other counties and may be a pound or two more or less than £29. Whilst it is called an off-peak fare the journey from East Suffolk Line stations includes the early morning peak time train from Ipswich to London. If you do decide to use this marvellous fare do book online though as that way you get a seat reservation. The inspector on the Ipswich to London train may otherwise say your ticket is invalid as he gave an annoucement that only peak time tickets are valid on the 0708 train. The seat reservation is linked into your ticket so proving that the ticketing system allows the use of the off peak time ticket.

Hmmm...
I think you will find the ferry fare will be extra, but cannot find anything saying that at the moment.
Anyhow, worth buying that sort of ticket if going from say Felixstowe to Chester. A bargain!0 -
The fare does indeed include the ferry fare, see http://www.sailrail.co.uk/ for details.
While sailrail only covers the route Irish Sea route similar although not quite so cheap deals can be found for many other ferry routes:
