credit card PPI

Hi
My husband had a credit card sometime ago, which is now completley cleared and closed down. I wrote to Alliance and Leicester, as he had PPI insurance automatically added on over the phone.
They wrote back some time ago saying that they wouldnt look into the case any further, as my husband was aware that he had taken the policy out. The reality of it was, my husband was told he had to take the policy and would be accepted if he agreed to have it. I never wrote back to them, because I didnt think we would get any further.

Is there still any point in me progressing this and can I get a copy of all statements to show exactly what he paid?

Thanks for your help

Hi there and welcome to this thread.;)
If this was 6 months or less when you tried then write to them and tell them you do not agree with the decision, and want this looked at again, because the policy "was mis sold" and if they do not resolve this then you will take this to the FOS to investigate this for you.

However, you may have read in the media, also on this site that some complaints that were rejected over the previous years, are going to be paying out, so hope this is going to be the case for your hubby as well.

I would be inclined to also request they send you a copy of the telephone recordings, they should supply them on request.

How long ago was this taken out?

And how long ago was it when you last wrote to them to reclaim?

  • hi, thanks for your quick reply. It was over 6 months ago we wrote to them, probably about a year ago. The reply confirmed we did have the protection etc but they refused point blank to refund and said my husband had signed the agreement.
The credit card is about 5 years old now.
Am I able to get a copy of all the PPI he paid, as he had a substantial balance on his credit card for numerous months.
    Thanks again

I would in your case request a SAR (Subject Access Request) where they have 40 days to comply and send everything they have.
Here is the letter template (link) below and enclose £10 postal or cheque payment for this request, post by recorded delivery.

Two months back having listened to Martin's interview on Radio 2 with Jeremy Vine it dawned on me that i was paying PPI but had always been of the mindset that it was 'part of the service'. Having heard him talk about it i knew that i was entitled to a refund and promptly set about drafting a letter with the help of the templates on this site.

A couple of weeks back i received a letter from Virgin Credit Card (MBNA) saying they were looking into the matter for me and would be in touch by October 9th. I read this as 'thanks for your letter, but we'll sandbag for a while, make excuses and drag the whole thing out'. I was getting ready for the next letter to the Ombudsman at this point.

This evening, as i logged into my account to check up on it i had to look twice as i thought i'd been logged into the wrong account. A refund of £2,298 PPI had been refunded to me - all for the price of one letter! I actually cannot believe it!

People, if you feel you are entitled to money back, please get that letter out!! I'm gobsmacked and would like to thank all attributed to Martin's website for their help.

A very happy and satisfied credit card holder!
