I was wondering! I opened the first direct current a/c last week and i know you get £50 for having your wages paid in....could i get away with doing a bill payment for say £700 for my current a/c i normally use to get the £50 and then close it? It's only i cant easily transfer my account as im with hsbc at the mo and have a regular saver (which is dependent on having a current a/c there)
Any help guys?

Always worth a try..
If they query it, your argument could be "but I'm self employed, I have to pay myself...".
I can't imagine their t's+c's state your salary must come from an external source other than your own account, because that would be difficult for some. Best off asking the bank really, or just trying it and see if you get the £50.0 -
I've also opened a first direct account and deposited £10k on the 12th of April. My salary went in on the 27th April but i have still not received the £50.
From the first direct website:
"When you apply for a Bank Account online and transfer your salary/income, we will add £50 to your account.
Joining incentives are valid for three months from the date the account is opened and will be credited within 28 days of the criteria being met."
So i'm thinking that when my salary gets paid in on the 25th May then my account will be credited with the £50. This will make it 6 weeks since i opened the account.0
