Sky+ Remote Dead one month out of warranty

A bit annoyed about this.

Went to Sky plus just over the year on an 18 month contract and had the normal 1 year warranty, didnt extend it as i expect the equipment to last longer than that! The previous version lasted over 10 years before we upgraded.

So, the mrs rings them today and they basically said tough and they cant send another as its not under warranty and the computer wont let them:mad:

Now, im sure ive read posts on here with similar problems with other items such as white goods / tvs etc and the replies seemed to imply there was a route you could take or suggestions for letters to write and complain based on the fact that an item should last more than a year!

I would happily swallow the price of a new remote if id dropped it or kicked it or spilt coffee on it, but it was working perfectly well, then 10 minutes later as i was fast forwarding through the ads it died.
No warning re batteries but i assumed it was and despite 2 brand new sets, nothing, and i mean nothing on the remote, the red light didnt flash or anything so its definitely dead :-(

So any suggestions would be great.

Ring Sky and ask nicely for a new one, they might send one for free

Or look on EBay plenty on there from £5.99 delivered

I had the same, say you have been a customer for a long time and it has been the first time you have required one, say could you not do this as a goodwill gesture as virgin do this for their customers. Might give them a nudge

Yep. Virgin replace the remotes free of charge if there is a fault with them.

But it's an entirely different model to Sky. With Virgin you effectively rent the equipment, including the remote and Virgin are therefore responsible for its maintenance.

But with Sky you buy the equipment (even though the cost is usually zero), and you are responsible for it outside of the normal warranty and SOGA provisions.
