Standard Life Windfalls

Options
Saw in yesterday's paper that standard life were trying to contact five members who have not voted yet but all were in line for £50K plus worth of shares if SL goes PLC.

One was in line for £100K worth of shares but had not yet voted, great for them but I feel it may have been better if all members had been given a fixed share alloaction say £2Ks worth of shares each it would have be fairer, after all mutals are supposed to owned by its members, 1 member 1 vote..

In fact, one member who has not validated his membership is in line for £586,000 of windfalls  - This is Money Link

Or slightly less, if the market doesn't stabilise.

That is likely to be based on an old policy worth well over £2 million.

Cann't be bad to have a policy worth over £2 million, then being in line for £500K worth of shares.

I bet this policy holder would not even need the £500K, as there probably that minted already.

How much is your windfall worth after recent market falls? - IA link

At 18th May it was probably down 8.4% on April estimates.

Well, I've just filled in my voting form - and that of Mrs GG.

If you haven't filled in yours, it needs to arrive by 28th May and the envelopes that SL sent out are franked 2nd class. If you don't send it by lunchtime tomorrow (Thursday), I'd recommend a 1st class stamp if you want your vote to count.

What do you all feel is going to happen with the shares??

Are most people thinking of cashing in?

Does anyone know what date you are allowed to move your money without losing the windfall shares? ie is it the 1st of June.

    Thanks all.

That is the exact date from which you could close your WP policy and remain eligible for your windfall shares.

We need to wait until July to get a feel for the state of the market then, and the relative value of Standard shares when they are issued.

At this stage I'm thinking of holding onto my shares in the expectation of merger activity in the sector, and to pick up the 5% bonus shares at the end of the first year.

But things may change and each investor has different priorities.

Before rushing in to selling endowments etc on 1st Jun, you need to consider your loss of eligibility should the flotation NOT go ahead.

Even if 100% of members who vote, vote for demutualisation, there is no guarantee that it will go ahead.

Equally, don't spend your 'windfall' nor commit to spending it, until it's safely in your bank.

I may have to cash my shares in immediately as it could come in handy with our expected new arrival. However, for now I will wait and see what happens.

98% yes vote today, so fingers crossed it will all go through and we all recieve our windfall shares, just a pitty it was not 6 years back when we all would have got 3 or 4 times the value back then.

Not necessarily true. I'd have had less shares because I'd have been a member for less years.

Also, a stock market crash was just around the corner and by the time SL was floated, payouts could have been much less than 'predicted'.
