Please help - major problem

First post here,

Basically I had to pay money into TalkTalks HSBC account. I used direct banking, but didn't get a receipt, as I was told it would be okay just by putting my details on the slip. They say they cannot trace the payment.

I went back to the bank and the woman gave me a reference number and the time the payment went in. TalkTalk are saying they still cannot trace it. They are telling me to get proof of payment and fax it to them, but I do not have proof of payment.

If I went to the bank would they be able to give me proof to give to TalkTalk? I mean like notification that I did pay it etc? :(

Payment was for £125 and I certainly cannot afford to repay it to TT.

Bet you wish you had got a receipt at the time!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.
  • It was my first time using anything like that, and I didn't know as I was told by TalkTalk to put my details on the slip and it would be fine. Obviously it isn't.

So, yeah, of course, but that isn't what I am asking here. I am wondering if the bank will give me proof of payment, or if anyone has ever been in a situation like this. I need advice. The girl in the bank gave me details of the account it was paid into, the reference number to give and the time, so do you think they would give proper proof? =/
  • Anyone? :(

  • I am not a member of HSBC.
  • Talk talk will have a credit they cannot apply and their accounts section should be able to find it.
It would be a lot easier if they a receipt to go on.
At the very least the bank can confirm the details of the payment by looking at the electronic log of their days work.
  • The woman checked that out and gave me a reference number and the time it went into their account to give.

Harping back to ye olden days when I worked for Lloyds TSB if credits (or debits) went astray we could raise a 'Head Office Query'. We would photocopy branch evidence and detail how/when it was processed etc. HO would then deal with it.

Now I know that was YEARS ago, but there must be some similar processes in place whereby your branch can chase a credit that they can confirm was collected by them.
  • I am not a member of the branch I was told to go into. I went back though and I spoke to a girl there and she checked it out and said TT definitely received the payment.

TT are saying they cannot trace it with that reference number and are looking me to fax proof of payment.

I am wondering if I went over to the HSBC branch tomorrow and spoke about this to them, would they be able to give me proof to fax?

Yeah the bank will be able to give you proof of payment in the form of a letter or something.

This happened to me once with telewest before they become virgin media.
