Nationwide advice needed

Need a little advice. Went to pay for a new car yesterday at the Dealership using my Visa Debit card as a Nationwide Branch advised me to do instead of obtaining a bankers draft.

Anyway go to pay accepts PIN no then comes up Card Declined this happened twice!!! Funds were in accounts!!! Phone Nationwide no help what so ever, all they can advise is to go to branch.

Dealership has to get me a taxi to Nationwide at their cost really kind of them. Went to pick car up at 10.30am didn't get finished until 1pm!!

Anyway Nationwide are trying to blame visa and then the dealerships visa machine even though it was working on transactions before and after the one I tried to complete.

Nationwide are really unhelpful. I have been with them for over 15 years and this is the second major cockup in two months!!!

I am out 2 hours wages as well as a taxi fare. I have all the paperwork relating to the visa transactions. What can I do about this?

  • I thought that paying thousands on a debit card would cause issues.

Most I ever did was £1.5k deposit on my natwest switch card and they had to ring for authorization took ages.

I would always get a bankers draft and normally find that the branch manager will waive the fee.

How much where you looking to pay?

My mum has natwest private banking and tried to by her saab convertable and it went through ok and that was like 20k.

I had a problem with Nationwide if the amount was £10,000 or more. I then split the amount into two separate payments and had no problems.

I've bought new cars using my Nationwide debit card - four times in the last three years. Never had a problem.

Have paid £10k over the internet on a debit card before, went through fine. Several days later I got a letter asking to call them as they were concerned by an 'unusual transaction'.
