Hi all, After having washed all the bed linen today and changed all the beds, in typical fashion lol DD has been ill and vomited all over her bed...... have got all the linen in the wash, but her matress is soaked as muggins ere forgot to put the rubber sheet thingy back on today when I changed everything. I've tried to dry it as much as I can and I've sprinkled loads of bicarb on it. If I leave it like this overnight and then vac up tomorrow, will this get rid of the pong? (DD will have to kip in with us tonight)Em x

I find bicarb and talcum powder is good as the talcum powder absorbs any damp bits left. Then just vacuum (with the nozzle)not the vacuum as you can fall off the bed!! That was a poor joke by the way!
  • Hi - my delightful friend ate and drunk too much at my BBQ on Saturday night and was sick over my upstairs landing carpet and in the bathroom. It's all be cleaned but the smell is persisting in the bathroom (seems to be OK on carpet strangely enough unless the bathroom smell is just overpowering it at the moment). I've done a search and can see plenty of info about carpet smells. Any idea about what to do in the bathroom? It seems to be lingering around the loo and the lino. Needless to say, said friend is now banned from staying round again....

If the smell is lingering in the bathroom and its a lino covered floor then the obvious conclusion is that its leached its way under the lino (especially if this is cut around the toilet) and into the floor boards. In your position I'd be pulling up the lino, bleaching and drying out the floorboards. If the smell still lingers once the floorboards are dry then I'd try sanding out the worst of it. If you have a modern house the floorboards won't be wood, they'll be compressed chipboard and will have acted like a sponge.

Get your friend to clean and de-stink your bathroom!

Get a big pack of bicarb and spread it all over the floor. Leave as long as poss.
i did this with a smokey smelling leather chair i inherited and it removed much of the smell.

There is a product called HG eliminator but I have been unable to buy it anywhere.

I've seen the HG range, usually in builders supply sort of places.
