Hi all

Im doing a casserole for tea (dinner depending on where you're from!) tomorrow and wondered if anyone knew what was cheaper...
should i use the slow cooker setting on my gas cooker or plug in my slow cooker and use the electric?
Thanx in advance, Nic

Nobody can answer that as they don't know how much gas/electricity each appliance uses. Nor do they know how long each item will be on for.

As a general rule, to generate the same amount heat gas is cheaper. However, the SC will only heat the crock pot, where as the gas will have to heat the whole oven. So to cook your casserole in the oven you will have to use the gas to generate more heat than the SC would need.

Not sure with Gas but I was using the electric SC part of my cooker till i plugged in my OWL, realised it was costing between 30-60p hour for oven and I was leaving the oven on for 6-8 hours a time. I dusted off my old SC and plugged in and this runs at aboput 4p hour.

I would seriously suggest you get your OWL, oven and electricity supplier looked at. That's a serious amount of electricity for a cooker to be using, just to cook a casserole.
  • As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll move it to the Utilities Board to see if the experts there have further suggestions ;)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
