Underlying benefit

Hi we have recently been awarded underlying benefit for carers allowance, will this affect any benefits such as help with the rent and council tax that we receive

Thanks for any advice offered:confused:

For what reason is it an underlying entitlement - are you also in receipt of IB?

Do you currently receive less than full HB and CTB? Also, it is HB or LHA that you receive?
    Gone ... or have I?

Hi dmg thank you for you reply,
I am 70 and receive my pension plus HRM and MRC DLA.
My husband is 63 and had a stroke 12 months ago and receives ESA. and LRC
We rent privately and get some help towards the rent and full CTB.
It was someone from DIAL who suggested that my hubby applied for the underlying carers benefit.
Before the stroke benefits are all new to us, because my hubby has always worked

Do you receive Pension Credits? An underlying entitlement to CA can result in premiums on HB and IS (the latter for working age claimants), but I am not sure how it affects those of pensionable age. I'm sure somebody will be along soon who will know the answer!

You need to inform the HB/CTB section that you have now been awarded CA (ULE) as they will add a carers premium to your claim and then recalculate your entitlement hopefully giving your more help for your rent
The pension service will also add a premium so let them know aswell as that may increase
