NY Flights - very expensive

I'm looking to fly to New York for a long weekend in December (Once the tree is lit), from Thursday to Monday.

Last year we managed to get flights with expedia.com.au on that 'mistake' and they were very cheap, I have been 3 times previous to this and never paid more than £300ish a person.

At the moment no matter where I search, they are all coming in at well over the £300 mark...

Does anyone know where I can get 2 adults and 1 infant to NYC from Manchester for a reasonable price (Dont mind changing somewhere, usually Paris or Amsterdam)

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Flights have gone up in price... i never used to spend more than £230, then that went to £280, and now, especially from Manchester, you're more looking towards £350 for a reasonable flight.

London has all the bargains, if you're saving enough, it might be worth checking london flight prices. £376 is what I can find for the 3rd December departure, with US Airways, changing at PHL, wheras London, I can find direct flights for £342.

December is always expensive though, and you were very lucky with the expedia.com.au flights, so you haven't really seen the flight prices shoot up, whatwith taxes being increased in November, fuel prices, and what airlines like to call "surcharges" etc etc, it just ain't as cheap to fly to NYC as it used to be

all the best flights have been leaving london and looks that way until xmas if your saving over 50quid each by flying direct from there it could be a good option If you can get friend or family to run you or find good parking deals . Good luck

I've been watching the NYC flights and they've leapt up in the past fortnight - over £50 added to the flights from Man-NYC for the dates I'm hoping to book. I'm not planning on going until April next year so I've got plenty of time to wait for them to drop again.

However, if I were you I'd just keep watching and hope that the prices drop a little before now and then. Do you really want to go in December? Its freezing cold and the exchange rate means that you won't get massive bargains!

dont worry about us up here were happy
Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Heaven , God went missing for six days. Eventually, Archangel Michael found him on the seventh day resting. He enquired of God, 'Where have you been?'

God pointed downwards through the clouds.
Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, 'What is it?'

'It's a planet,' replied God, 'and I've put
LIFE on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance.'

    'Balance?' inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing down to different
    parts of the Earth,

'For example, North America will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while South America is going to be poor; the Middle East over there will be a hot spot, and Russia will be a cold spot. Over there I've placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people.'

God continued, pointing to the different
    countries.

This one will be extremely hot and arid while
this one will be very cold and covered in ice.'

The Archangel , impressed by God's work, then pointed to another area of land and asked, 'What's that?'

'Ah,' said God. That's the North of England,
the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful people, and many impressive cities; it is the home of the world's finest artists, musicians, writers, thinkers, explorers and politicians. The people from the North of England are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they're going to be found travelling the world. They'll be extremely sociable, hard-working and high-achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as speakers of truth.'

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, 'What about balance God, you said there will be BALANCE!'

God replied very wisely, 'Wait till you see the bunch of losers I'm putting down South !

    :rotfl:

    sorry !!

have a little look here some decent prices if they can find a flight at the price they promise to from London but i think Mankchester can be a option for slightly more

Yes, fares to the US do seem to be quite high at the moment - probably due to a combination of the economic situation (fewer business travellers), the cost of oil and the GBP-USB exhange rate (oil more expensive and makes shopping trips to NYC less attractive)

The only cheap cheap carrier at the moment is Kuwait Airways, and they are doing fares for around £240 from LON, however, they don't fly on the days you want
