Deposit back from wedding that is cancelled

Hi, Please could you help me, I'm trying to cancel a wedding that I booked back in december 2008, the wedding its self is not till oct 2010 but due to unforseen circumstances it is no longer going ahead. I've signed a contract to say that the deposit paid is non refundable, is there anyway i can get this money back? cheers

Have you only paid the deposit? if so and you have signed a contract regardless of when the wedding is I really doubt you'd be entitled to get your money back. But if you have paid in full perhaps they will just keep the deposit amount and refund you the rest? Have you aproached the venue to ask these questions?

Given there is still 12 months until the planned date you could always claim the deposit is not equivalent to their losses at this time and as such constitutes a unfair term in the contract. However if they still refuse to refund you, then you would have to fight it out court.

You don't say how much your deposit was but I assume it will come into the Small Claims process which is a pretty simple process.

Make sure all your communication is in writing and keep copies
