Good old Eon.
They don't charge me for 6 months, despite chasing from our end.
My £45pm is about £5 short of actual usage figures but because they allowed the debt to build up, we're now going to get stupid charges pm.
So glad I switched to EDF last week.

Don't want to point out the obvious but its money that you owe, you state you knew they were not charging you so you could have just saved the money then paid off the debt in one go with the money that wasn't being taken by the DD.0

Hi bylromarha,
Do you have any idea why the Direct Debit was not set up correctly?
As you have changed supplier you will need to clear the balance, once you have received the final bill.
E.ON sometimes allow a final balance to be paid off over a three month period, however, a switch can be objected to if there is a debt on an account.
I would contact E.ON to see what options are available, regarding the balance as you want to change supplier.

DD wasn't set up. Despite all welcome material being received our end confirming DD July 08, it took 6 months for the data to go on the system.
Balance has now been paid off.
I find it appaling that the debt built up due to Eons mistake of not charging us for 6 months and then have done nothing for 9 months about that debt, not suggesting a higher realsitic DD to pay it off monthly, nor asking for the balance to be paid, but leaving it to sit on the account.
Suddenly, winter is approaching (higher costs looming), capped rate ends (higher costs for customer) and now is the time that the DD is shooting up by 300% to cover the debt. Good for the customer?
Thankfully we knew the bill was coming and had put aside funds for it, but Eon should have pushed for payment sooner or increased the DD to a more realistic level much earlier. A 100% increase would have been easier to stomach when it was obvious there was a debt back in January.
This 300% increase in DD would not have been sustainable for our budget, or most people's TBH.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Hi bylromarha,
I am really sorry that you have had such a poor time with E.ON, this should not happen at all.
If a Direct Debit is confirmed this should work correctly, I am unsure as to why this has happened.
It does surprise me that if the arrangement was not set up correctly and we didn't take any payments from you, why a follow up letter was not sent out.
Could you see on the statements that the payments were not being taken and the debt building?
You say you have paid off the balance, there should be no objections to your change of supply.

I agree it shouldn't have happened!
No statements, no correspondence at all apart from the welcome pack in July 08. It was only because I keep a close eye on the bank statements and know the outgoings did I realise that Eon wasn't taking any money-it would have dropped out of my brain otherwise and no money put aside.
I phoned and emailed periodically as I remembered, but nothing happened despite reassurances on the phone it would.
The first bill in January 09 (after supply starting in July 08) showed the debt. Nothing was done by Eon to recover that money and the DD continued at the July 08 level, despite the clear negative balance.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

This makes me think it wasn't just the Direct Debit that was incorrect, your account as a whole wasn't billing for some reason.
What was the reason you were given of why your account was not set up?
I completely agree that when the bill did arrive you should have been contacted to agree a suitable payment arrangement and I am sorry that this did not happen for you.
As is stands you have been able to pay and move suppliers, due to you keeping track of everything. I am just sorry I can't do anything for you now.
