Destroyed Information

Hi,
I recently asked for a list of charges as per Martins article for the last 6 years from Barclaycard.
I have just recieved an email saying
"Unfortunately, we are not able to provide you with this information. It is not appropriate for companies to retain data about an individual for longer than is deemed necessary, therefore any such data that we held on you was securely destroyed in line with data protection guidelines
We are able to provide you with more recent statements, however should you require them."
Where do I go from here?!?!?

Ask them how far back their data goes? Furthermore, ask them for proof that the data was destroyed or was deleted otherwise you will seek a court to order disclosure.0
