Credit Card Reclaiming

I just contacted Halifax credit card to ask for the last 6 years worth of statements so I could see if I can reclaim any charges, I was under the impression it would cost £10 for these however they want to charge me over £100 is this correct because I think that is disgusting?
Many Thanks

You could try asking them for a subject access request under the data protection act.
Max charge is £10 and this is statutory so they can't ignore or change it.

This happens many times, when you have to use the correct terminology and unhelpful staff will not help you.

Just so I know, does that mean I'm effectively asking for the statements? Sorry prob a daft question!

A subject access request means all the data they hold about you.
So that includes transcripts of phone calls and everything.
I got quite a big pile of paper.

If you ask for "statements" you'll be sent (and charged extortionately for) statements.

If you ask for "a subject access request" you'll be sent all the data they have on you (including the data they use to generate the statements) and charged for the an access request (a tenner.)

    They're being pedantic.

  • Hi

Just looking for a bit of advice, I have been reading through the forums all day as I am going to attempt to reclaim my charges for 2 credit cards I hold with Halifax, I am planing to send the letter requesting the list of charges tomorrow using the template provided on this site, after reading this post I wonder if I need to change the wording of the letter to include "a subject access request"?
  • What do you do if you already have all your statements, do you just start from a different stage?
