To some this is a probably a silly question for me to ask but Im not a driver so dont really take notice of parking signs normally.
A white sign with a small blue P in the left corner with these words on
Mon-Sun
9am-5pm
1 hour
No return within 1 hour
Does this mean you can park there during the times shown or you cant?(I did say its a silly question)
Cheers

It means that you can park there at anytime.
However on the days stated and between the times stated your parking is limited to one hour and you must not return to park on the portion of road controlled by that sign within one hour of leaving. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I beg to differ ! it does not mean you can park there at any time !, depends if there are waiting restrictions for starters. You would be correct in saying parking between hours stated and days stated is for one hour only and you must not repark in that area within one hourYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Thanks for your replies.
Basically Dad got a ticket for parking next to the sign I mentioned in my original post. Parked there for 35/40 mins and got a fine for his trouble. Annoying thing was there were 3 or 4 other cars parked on the same stretch of road, atleast 1 of which was there when we arrived and was still there on our return yet only Dad got a ticket. Dont know why, wasnt parked on the kerb or obstructing anybody or anything and its a small side road, no houses or shops on it, just a cemetery which we were visiting.
Anyway by parking where we did we have committed a 'serious parking contrevention' according to the Council resulting in not the usual £60 fine but a special £100 one! Appealed the penalty and their decision was 'this notice was correctly issued for being parked in a restricted street during enforcement times' and that ladies & gentleman is that. The only parking related sign on the road is the one I mentioned.
Anyway, silly Dad's paid it so its irrelevant now I guess, just annoying.
Thanks again

The sign like this
permits parking, subject to conditions. Any sign similar to this
prohibits parking during the times shown.

As always, a scan / photo of the PCN will be extremely useful0 -

Didn't you get any reduction for paying within a time limit? Even though there was only one "sign", the road markings will have some relevance; was he parked wholly within a marked (white broken line) bay? Was any part of his car over anything yellow?

Sign was exactly like that first one, weren't over any yellow markings and he did get a 50% reduction for paying within 14 days. Daylight robbery by these Councils. Regarding parking over anything yellow! the appeal letter states 'blah blah blah...or if no yellow lines but time plates indicating times of enforcement: the absence of a yellow line does not automatically mean that parking is permitted'
Marvellous !!!

Approx 12.10 on Saturday lunchtime - ticket was timed at 12.14. We returned to the car about half hour later.

Well, that's a mystery. From the bits and pieces you've posted, it sounds like no contravention has been committed, but we're still missing the photo / scan of the letter which could reveal the answer.
It's a shame you paid up.. you should have taken the matter to the independent adjudicator which is the next stage after the appeal rejection.0
