If you have a partner you need life insurance or would you rather that person struggled on alone trying to pay the mortgage?

Im just going to cancel the insurances and if i have to ill start them back up once everything is clear.

Ill keep everyones advice on the cigarettes in mind although im going to try stopping immediately on Monday. (should have finished allan Carrs book by then)

Im actually feeling very positive about this now.:T

That's not true. I was on my own for the first 2 mortgages (cancelled life insurance shortly after getting second one), and a joint one on the last and there was no mention or requirement of life insurance.
There would have been no struggle in my case, but I would advise it if there are kids/partner yes, but get the impression this op is living alone - what woman would put up with their man boozing the money away ;-)
    just a joke op :)

    Hey all,

I don't have any insurance. Once I'm more debt free I plan to put some aside in an ISA or high interest savngs account for emergencies. That way if I need it I have it, and if I don't I have my captal plus a bit of interest to take the DD and partner away on holiday.

Hope you're doing okay OP, I'm glad you're doing well, and hopefully the stopping smoking's going well.I can recommend taking up cross stitch or knitting to help quit, my ex hubby said at 5pm one night while stitching a Tiger kit 'I'm going for fags in a minute'. By 10pm he still hadn't gone. Keep your hands & mind busy.

Keep us updated. Anyone thought of starting a thread for people hoping to save by quitting smoking?
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Buy one of those false plastic ciggies, they are about 1.99 and they do help as smoking is mostly habit of putting something in your mouth and having something between your fingers and you can inhale on them.

Hi there, I have just taken cable broadband through telewest (although I have a BT line as well). It was put in yesterday. 2mb @ £17.99 per month, £10 off your first bill and £40 cashback for doing it through Quidco.

I would say that you don't need Life Assurance. Critical illness is more important as you are much more likely to suffer a cancer and live. It is very expensive though. They used to make it a requirement of taking a mortgage to take life assurance but it is not now. If you are in a couple, it would be false economy (IMHO) not to take it though as if your partner were to die, although there might be a death in service pay out, the LA would pay off the loan leaving the DIS payment to live on afterwards as we become used to the economies of scale of being in a couple.

In terms of PPI insurance. You have a very cheap premium due to your low mortgage payment but try https://www.helpupay.co.uk. This is who martin recommends for it if you want it as it is bargain insurance.

Also to add, dont forget the NHS for giving up smoking. there are helplines, cessation groups, and you can also get freebie patches and inhalors. YOu wont get loads, but better than paying out for them! My local GP I read is starting to offer hypnotherapy too ( Im increasingly keen to give up the fags) and when I do it, I'll be going about it DFW style!!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
