vistaprint are cheap, but cheap is not always best and remember you are representing your company on that!, I get the one man band come in my business giving me a business card from vistaprint, I throw it in the bin, as I think if you going to go cheap on the one thing thats showing what your company is about, then you are going to be sloppy with your work. My advise in business is the better the business card the better.
2nd that. You have to remember the old saying you never get a second chance to make a first impression... so with me its vistaprint, bin and door. its worth investing in anything your customer is going to see.The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
What about an advert on your rear window of your vehicle.
These can be done quite cheap and would be seen by hundreads of people every day.0 -

I can sent you one of mine if you like
I think it's a fair point on quality cards, if you're going to do it get decent ones - it says a lot about the kind of business you are, imho anyway. As I'm ordering the cards for my partners new small business I want something reasonably decent.
I did consider Vistaprint but I had heard similar accounts and they really pile on (semi) hidden costs along the order process.
Ideally I would use a local printer who's work I could see but sadly our local outfit recently closed down.
I think I might take a punt on one of the eBay outfits with decent feedback.
Thanks again folks for your help :T

I googled business cards and requested samples off all the companies I was considering (Vistaprint didn't offer samples...)
You'll be amazed at the difference in quality- one company looked great on their website and had reasonable prices but when they samples arrived they were terrible! practicaly printed on paper- nasty, flimsy washed out things!
This is the company that I had planned to use so I was very glad I asked for samples first.
The best one I found was Goodprint- they sent me a lovely sample pack which just reinfornced my belief- and that of people of- that a good first impression is crucial.
They have regular special offers- my sample pack had a 50% discount code in it and I ended up getting 50, double-sided colour print with single side in high gloss for £50. They are lovely, thick, glossy and shiny, I'm very pleased with them.
Goodprint even offer a review of your design to check that it would look ok (whereas some sites just print out exactly what you've sent- regardless of whether you've uploaded the right size file...)
It's definatley worth clicking "send sample" button on a few websites before you make your decision

Vista print cards are awful! If you are a one man band serving customers directly, you may get away with it. If you are B2B you may as well write your details on the back of a cigarette packett! Not only are the cards printed onto flimsy paper, they are actually smaller than normal as well.
I have had good experience with saxoprint, but it is worth mentioning the website can be a little confusing (being a german translation), and i imagine customer service could be an issue if you have problems.0 -

I can highly recommend the following eBay seller-
http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/thecosmeticpractice
I think they are acting on behalf of another company but the service and product quality is very good and 500 cards delivered with neat boxes to hold them is only £13.50. Also, I signed off the artwork at 10:20, they were with the carrier by 11:45 the same day - excellent turn-around!0
