Driving myself mad here!!! I have a sony handycam, that records onto dvd's. I can play the disc on computer on media player, and it shows all the individual scenes, this is great! but it wont let me save them as scenes, in fact it wont let me save them at all, so frustrating  . So I have spent all afternoon downloading varioud free trials of software to try and do what I need, but none of them do, so dear reader
this is what I am trying to do!
I have saved the dvd files to computer, and I have the VOB file, which is one long continuous film. What I want to do is conver the VOB to another format, like media files, or something most editing programes will work with, AND so that I can split the film into its various scenes, so that bits from several discs on same subject can be burned to a dvd to watch on tv in dvd player. Not much to ask.............. is it???

The full Nero package should be able to handle all that for you.
I think you could get away with just using vision express to cut up and mix individual segments from multiple recordings into a final DVD.
If you really want to convert into media files then Recode will be able to handle that.
Free trials are available and OEM versions are priced below £10 if you decide you like it.0 -
Use VOBedit to demux the video and audio stream. Then use MPEG2schnitt to cut the video into whatever segments you want and then use IFOedit to remux them to MPEG2 video streams.
If you want to convert it to AVI (XVID, etc) install the appropriate codecs and then use VirtualDubMod to re-encode it.
All the software mentioned is free.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0
