No, but if you had mould in your bathroom and tiles falling off the wall and you'd already had respiratory failure, I don't think having your bathroom decorated would be considered a luxury.

...but you were saying you "had to get rid of some". That is slightly different to decorating the bathroom.
You have been advised that if you shift large amounts of money from your account and then claim benefits, the social will look into it closely.
I am not sure what else I can add.

Why? They'd only be paying it in one instalment as opposed to 12. There's nothing dishonest about that.

Because they'd be paying in one chunk so that they could carry on claiming benefits, that's why!

There's nothing dishonest in doing this openly and taking your chances on the effect on benefits but talking about "getting rid of some" rather implies a lack of openness with the authorities.

But it's not intentional. I had planned to start a funeral plan in March but circumstances meant I was unable to sort it. If I had sorted it out then, then this person wouldn't be getting towards the £6,000 mark. The bathroom's been an issue for a long while and is another thing I've not had time to sort out as has the sofa (he's practically sitting on the floor and he's got osteoarthritis). I've been nagging and nagging him for years to get a new sofa as struggling to get out of his wouldn't do his hips any good. He finally relented a couple of weeks ago.

If he/she is on DLA he might get some adaptations to his place if they are needed

He's alright getting in and out of bath etc. and getting on and off the sofa using the arm as support, but I don't think practically sitting in what feels like a hole can be doing his hips any good in the longer term.

As for decorating the bathroom, if it was straight walls etc. painting wouldn't be a problem, but it's a very weirdly shaped bathroom and you wouldn't be able to reach all areas even with stepladders which is why I'm considering getting someone to do it for him or at least some of it.

You don't need to be on DLA to get adaptations. I've just had an assessment from Social Services and they are providing me with some different things, and I don't get DLA.

It may depend on the area though I suppose, but it would be awful if it did depend on DLA. There are disabilities that wouldn't get DLA, but would still require adaptations, so they just have to suffer? Sorry, will get off my soap box now! I'm a bit fed up of how everything differs so much between areas, which means some can get a certain kind of help, and others get nothing!
