Can I appeal? Contravention code 50L

OK here's the deal, will try explaining as best as i can.

Basically a road at the end of our road, the main entrance to our road, was closed off to the public/residents while there was water mains work was going on on that part of the road. Coming from that route (one way) the diversion told us to turn right at the traffic lights, but we'd just end up at the same place again.

So basically, before we reach the traffic lights (where the prohibited left turn is) we would normally turn left into our road. Instead, we are sent on a detour round the block, coming back to the same place !

We took the left turn at the traffic lights rather than turning right (and we chose not to go straight on because its difficult to turn back with the queue of cars waiting at the opposite traffic light). Then we conveniently turned into another entrance of our road.

This happened about three or four times while the water works were ongoing. Now we have received a couple of letters with Penalty Charge from the CCTV covering that part of the road. Depending how many times we did it, we may be expecting more !

What we want to know is whether we have grounds for appeal? - diversion telling us to go right, water works, etc?

Could someone please help? As it stands we have to pay up within 14 days I think at a reduced rate of £60. Otherwise it would be £120.

We can safely say that manoeuvre/turning will not be done again!!
TIA

Rather tricky to get my head round that one. Photos of the obstruction would be helpful, as would a google map of the area together with indications of where exactly the roadworks were and what was blocked.

Oh, and the legal brains on here will want both sides of the PCN / letters scanned and posted too.

Will try taking pics if the water works are still there. The diversion sign is still there i believe.

Here's a pic of the PCN.

I'm intrigued by this sentence. So will the council if you use this in an appeal. Was there any legal way at all you could have reached your home with the roadworks in place (regardless of "difficulty")?

The road name and location will be really helpful so we can google it for better visualisation.
