You only need to clean up your C partition. The D partition is the factory restore part of the drive.
No, it gets rid of everything except the most recent restore point. Creat a new Restore Point before you do the clean up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for clarifying about the drives, macman and sorry for the delay in replying.
So if I right click on the C drive, select properties and click on Disk Cleanup, will it then come up with an option for creating a new Restore Point? If not, then how do I go about doing this?
Sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure I'm doing it right before I attempt it. Thanks.0 -
You can get Restore Point from the Tools>Accessories menu,No free lunch, and no free laptop0

vista is an absolute s0d for this....i bet you'll find many gb of space taken up with old restore points, shadow copies,etc...
How to get rid:-
1. Go to computer, right-click on your hdd and select properties. Note how much free/used space it has.
2. Select disk cleanup, let it calculate (may take a good few minutes), then select the more options tab (still on the disk cleanup window) and click to clean up old restore points/backup copies/shadow copies). This will probably take a good while, especially if you've never done it before, so be patient.
3. Confirm you want to delete all these files, and click ok to clean up.
Note how much free/used you have now
you should find that this operation has removed lots of gb of old crappy files, and should then give you a bit more leeway when you start going through your pics, music and other files.
For reference, on my vista lappy, i only use it for web and limited office functions (use the desktop for everything else, inc. E-mail). I clean out as per the above twice a week maybe.... And even on such limited use, i usually clear 3-5 gb each time. Vista creates way too many restore points and backup images etc., and they just clog up your hdd
good luck and let us see the before and after figures
thank you, i now have 12gb extra spaceway to go!!:t:t

To everyone who's been struggling for disk space, the cleanup routine should be done every week or two to keep on top of it, especially if using Vista.
You'll still need to go through your drive and get rid of old stuff you no longer want/need, and think about storing your photos/music/documents on possibly an external HDD rather than bung up your main one with them......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Use CCleaner. It's great, free and rather popular.0

Yeah, every day (and I do), but that won't get shut of the old restore points/backups...you need to do that as well......

You need to set the restore size to something smaller else the restore size will gradually go back to 12 gig:idea:0
