It's been downhill since the merger with BOS imo.

I like the way you didnt used to have to sign your money in. In my local Halifax branch they'd just stick the cash in some sort of capsule that shot round the building in an air powered tube system and give me a receipt!

Worth noting to anyone thinking of changing from Halifax to Alliance & Leicester that if you go through Quidco you will get £45 on top of the £100 A&L give you to switch to them.

Only A&L are just awful. They messed up on my account big time and caused me so much grief. Just search this site and you will see all the problems people have! The online system is not very good imho and not live so you never really know how much you have in your account. Phone them to ask and the customer service assistant won't know either.. even their system on their side is behind and not live! You've been warned!!

Not sure what you mean about the online system not being live? I've been with A&L a little over a year now (use it as my bills/dd account) and have never had a problem. Also had a 2yr mortgage with them a few years back. Can't say I've ever had any problems with them and dont remember ever having to call them. I'd certainly remember a bad experience!
