Vista, it's not a conundrum anymore.

Whether people like Vista or XP is usually based on their experiences rather than one being better than the other. I happen to like XP and other than Microsoft de-supporting it, don't want to move to Vista.

One of the reasons we're sold the latest CPUs is just so we can run Vista "acceptably".

I've been using XP on a 6-year old desktop (Athlon 1.2 Ghz processor/1Mb RAM) and it runs great.
If I put Linux on it, it would probably be even quicker.

It's fair enough to continue to run XP if you have everything set up to run on it. If you buy a new pc which runs XP and start trying to set up itunes, firefox, word, excel etc. etc. you're causing alot of unnecessary hassle for yourself and XP will be fully obsolete before your machine is.

A dilemmna between a mac and a pc, or between linux and microsoft i can see, a dilemmna between a new machine with Vista or a new machine with XP doesn't exist.

    Hi.

What specific problems with "itunes, firefox, word, excel" do you have on XP?
  • Asus EEEPC running Linux A mini laptop with a lot of go, great to use and non microsoft. £219 at Bennetts Electrical. Get the 4G with microphone & webcam, not the 2G surf. It can take XP but there's enough on it already not to bother. Once you get used to it, switch it to advanced desktop and its a different machine.

Maybe the fact that they all use different installers from different sources, some need validation and some use different interfaces, unlike Linux where the vast majority of software can be apt-got and installed from a single server on the internet with little need for validation.

Why are Acer laptops so much cheaper? Are they rubbish or what?
