Just though i'd Inform people looking for a new laptop that dell have released a new voucher code for their studio 15 range. Its 10% off for purchases over £699. I know this is the wrong place but i think most apropriate for people searching for laptops. Also i know £699 isnt cheap either but i felt i needed to let people know about the deal. 10% is quite a good bit off.

heres the link to the voucher codes thread i created.

Non readers of the Grabbit! board may have missed the Dell Outlet offer which was posted by Superdamo:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1402889
There's £55 off and free delivery at the moment.

I've just picked up a Core2Duo 15.4" Vostro laptop up from the Dell Outlet which, when the discounts were applied, came to £302.44. Admittedly only 1Gb RAM but I'll pop some more in (at that price, I can afford to buy plenty more).

The Latitude notebooks appear to have increased in price slightly, but if you're after a laptop for surfing the net and occasional Office work, you shouldn't go wrong with a Vostro.

I prefer desktops to laptops, and 99% of the time they will do the trick. How often do you really need it to be portable?

Desktops have more reliable components, you'll get a bigger screen, more power for your money and fewer crashes. They are easier to repair and upgrade. You can replace the base for a more powerful model in 3-4 years time and keep the screen, keyboard etc which again saves money.

Desktop Monitors are much better than those on laptops with usually a wider viewing angle, higher resolution. If you get a dead pixel at least you can replace the screen - not an option with a laptop really.

The money saving potential of desktops is better as there seems to be a big premium for second hand laptops on eBay, but not so much with desktops.

My tips is only get a laptop if:
    • You really need the portability (i.e. you regularly travel and need a PC)
    • You are short of space for a desktop
    • You think it's good for your ego / image :rotfl:
    • You regularly get power cuts.
Otherwise a desktop may suit you.

I would if I knew where to start in finding a good value desktop
  • Hi, any help greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a laptop, nothing too fancy, mainly for web browsing, mp3s, pics, bit of office stuff. I want a decent speed as I'm impatient but it's basically a desk top replacement for space saving.

I found these on Tesco Direct

    HP G60 116EM QL-60 3GB 250GB 15.6" £399
    Toshiba A300-13X TL-60 2GB 200GB 15.4" £399
    Toshiba Equium P300-16T 17" £399

Anyone recommend any of the above or think it a good (especially if a further 10% off)/poor deal?

    Thanks.
  • im also looking for a cheapish laptop...
around 400 max, so what is the better deals going?

Of those four it would be a toss up between the Tosh A300 or the Fujitsu, very little between them spec wise.
