Best company to service combi boiler?
Options
I've just noticed that I have very low pressure on my hot water upstairs...my combi boiler bar reading is almost 0. Now being a woman I haven't got the first clue what to so I want to get the bolier serviced in the hope that will get the problem fixed. I don't want to get ripped off so can anyone recommend which company would be best? Thanks!!

cant you ask any friends/relatives/neighbours???
it just needs pressure increasing to around 1.3 bar.
what boiler is it? have you a manual, or can you download one.
no need for a service if the pressures dropped.0 -

It's an Ideal...think it's C24 or C28. I have a manual but it doesn't explain how to increase the pressure and I've had a look online but couldn't find anything useful. I don't know any of the neighbours so am not really comfortable asking anyone to come round. God I hate being a woman sometimes!!0 -
Luckily we have BG contract, so when our combi lost pressure last week I called them out , and he said lost pressure like that usually indicated a leak somewhere. He mended a faulty filler valve I think. BG is expensive though so Ill be looking this year at terminating my contract (they actually reward ongoing contract loyalty by putting your price miles above new customers) £227 against £150 for Homecare 200 ) I find my trusted tradespeople by joing chat cafe of the local freecycle group and asking whos had who and whether they recommend ,so Ill be asking about Gas Safe boiler repair people soon.0

All it needs is someone to open a valve for a few seconds to put some more water in the system.
All systems need it occasionally.
Is there no one you know that could do it for you?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
As ariba says, it really is easy
Somewhere near the boiler will be inlet water pipes, with hopefully a flexible steel hose linking two of them
All you do is open both stop cocks and watch the pressure, close the stop cocks when it gets near the required pressure, only takes a few seconds
If you do get someone in, get them to show you how to do it before they vanishEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
But, a boiler service is generally useful- once a year- on such a complicated system as yours. My old floor boiler ( 32 years young) , open flue system is serviced with a vacuum and a flue brush.
Just ring local plumbers for a quote for a service, avoid large companies, but ensure they are qualified.0 -
If you do get someone, have a look on checkatrade first

Not unbiased as the trader pays to be listed, but at least you can judge for yourself with customer commentsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
