Windows Explorer has encountered a problem....

My recently purchased new computer (Windows XP SP2) has started a habit of showing a message which states "WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE". I've not tied this down to any specific activities as yet, and I've got Zonealarm Pro running and also use 3 separate spyware utilities regularly. I also get the Windows Updates from Microsoft on a regular basis. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Polybear.

Try a system restore to before that was happening if its only just started. also have you installed any new hardware/drivers/sofwtare on the computer :)

If you dont have any important data, or easilbly backable data then u may want to format if it can't be solved and reinstall windows :)

You should see if it happens when the same icons are being displayed on the screen.

It used to be that every time a paint.net icon was on my screen explorer would crash. (It was beta testing at the time) I reported the problem to them and they fixed it quickly.

I still have the same problem when displaying .xml icons - A known problem for my setup. Whenever i open up a folder containing .xml files I know it might crash
