appliance on worktop?

hi there,
just wondering do you think it would be ok to put a tumble or freezer on my worktop?

I am sturggling with space for freezer & dryer now we have converted our garage.
Solution was to put freezer under stairs, but now i have nowhere to put a dryer which is becoming a necessity.

Could i maybe put one or the other on top of the worktop in my utility room? i would have to remove a cupboard & it would be close to a sink, would this matter?

thanks in advance :)

I have had my tumble dryer on the work surface above the washer in my last two houses and never had a problem. Just make sure your vent hose is long enough to reach a window.

I wouldn't put a freezer on because most freezers have drawers and you would struggle to see what's in the them and get food in and out.

  • thought freezer might mean less vibrations etc
i would use a stool to get bits out hehe as i'm short i'd prob need one to access tumble dryer as well
howdo u stop them movin around when spinning?
can i not put the vent out the wall right behind the drier?

If it's in your shed, then vent kit through the wall would be no probs, If through a cavity wall, it will be a bit more work and and you may have to hire a diamond core driller etc to cut through the wall.

As for vibration, I haven't had a problem as tumble dryers don't spin, they just...tumble!

I used to have my washing machinre and tumble dryer stacked to save space, using a stacking kit you can buy from some manufacturers (miele in my case). No worries at all when the washing machine was spinning, so they are secure and safe, and you don't need worktop. Mine was in the utility.
Life is a work in progress
  • thanks for that! i knew about the stacking kits but worktop is already in place plus boiler is above the washing machine

We have a tall larder freezer with drawers, so it is not just a problem with stacked appliances.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

My tumble drier's been on top of either the washer or a cupboard since I got it, never been a problem. You just have to make sure it is near enough to an electric socket.

It might not be ideal but have you considered putting the tumble drier in a bedroom instead? If it's a vented drier either put the vent pipe out the window in usage or get a condenser box. Ours has been located in the bedroom in the past..just drape over a sheet if you don't like the look of it plus also makes a handy TV stand!

Though if you've got a utility room it would make more sense rearranging that room to make it fit there. I see you're considering the shed as a possible location which might not be ideal as often when you have need for a tumble drier it's raining so might not want to get soaked en-route to shed!
