Legal Protection

Hi,
I've just started to look at both my car and household insurance. Both are with Direct Line. My car insurance is fully comp but includes £20 for legal protection. My household insurance also contains a similar amount for home legal protection.
My question is do I need to pay for both of these? How much is compulsary and how much is really needed?
If it is a good idea to take out legal protection is there a cheaper way to do it.
Thanks,
John

The 2 are different to each other - I will let you decide if you need both of them.....
Motor Legal Protection - covers the cost in recovering uninsured losses (such as excess, hire car, loss of earnings, personal injury compensation etc) from the at fault party for the driver and passengers of your vehicle (assuming the driver is insured on your policy) where the insurance company believe you have reasonable chance of sucess
Family Legal Protection - 24/7 free legal advice on more or less any topic (often over looked). Legal representation in :
Contract Dispute
Property Dispute
Employement Dispute
Personal injury claims (excluding those arising from motor accidents when you/ your family were the driver or passenger)
Covers all members of the family which are permant residents of your property. Again usual caveat of cases where they feel you have a reasonable chance of success.
I got a flier through the door advertising a 24/7 legal advice line and they wanted £60 a year for that alone. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
