Obviously, when I need to apply for credit (e.g. mortgage), I will put my name on there. If I really want to see my credit report, I guess I could send additional ID to the CRAs or put my name on the electoral roll in the next canvass period.
You would be best advised to do it now, actually. I would delay only if you're planning to move in the next 3-4 months.

Your name cannot be added to the ER retrospectively. If you enroll now, public records will show that you've lived at your current address since at least 1 December 2009. Do it later and you won't score any points for the period prior to registering.

If you type "electoral roll" and the name of your council into google, you'll be directed to the relevant pages on your local authority website. Most include an explanation of how the register is compiled and when your name will appear. Some council websites are set up so you can register online or download a form or you can ring the electoral services department of your local council during business hours.

Once done, you may want to contact your local electoral services dept, to ask when the credit reference agencies are next updated, as frequency varies between boroughs. When you apply for credit files, your name, address and electoral status are three fundamentals that you should check the accuracy of first and foremost ;)

    Very best

I rather not pay £2 and a stamp to send it off. Once I fill in the form online, I get instant access.

Ok, but be vigilent about cancelling.
You might have to hold on, on the phone for 40 mins, but if you don't then you will end up paying a lot more than £2.
    Your choice obviously.
About that www/annualcreditreport.co.uk , do I get to see details held in all 3 CRAs? It says £2.50 as a one off setup fee. Obviously, to get that amount, payment details are required...? I'm confused.

Apologies. Look like my info was out of date.
It used to be completely free, but it was only call credit, not all 3.
    Is this website really genuine?

I've had completely free information with no payment details given for 3 years.
I've have a very few occasional emails which I believe I agreed to.
But personally I would not pay for Call credit. It's doesn't have as much information as the other 2.

I don't have utility bills as I don't pay them. I have drivers licence, bank statement, and JSA entitlement letter with my address on it. As for photo ID, passport and drivers licence. I hope those are ok. Can they be photocopies, or do I need to send the originals by post?

Bank statement should be fine instead of utility bills.

I don't think you have to send originals of your photo ID. An alternative to sending originals would be to take your photo ID to your bank and get them to do a certified copy. This shouldn't cost you anything.
