Royal mail compensation claim for lost package

Hi there
I sent a package to South Africa on the 29/08/09 via Royal Mail International Signed for, and its still not arrived. I was told I had to wait 25 working days before I could try to trace it or claim for compensation. I usually send and receive packages to and from SA, so I know if its not received within 10days to 2 weeks, its usually because its gone walkies, no point trying to trace it.
I want to claim for compensation however I misplaced the receipts for the things i bought which all total up to about £30. I bought things from Accessorize, WHS Smith and Warehouse cash, and stuff from HMV with my debit card. Dont ask my why i didnt just buy it all on debit card, or keep all the receipts safe for that matter. But hey ho, here we are.
So my question is, does anyone know how else i can prove that i made these purchases, as on the claim form, it asks for proof? All proof i have is for the stuff from HMV. Probably a lost cause but just thot id ask anyway. Oh and has anyone had any experience with claiming for lost packages from the Royal Mail, did they pay out, was it a bit of palaver, etc?
Thanks!
