Pestered with cold calls - ways to see off?

We are being pestered with unsolicited telephone calls, mostly I think from the Far East, trying to sell us mobile phone offers and financial services.
We are registered with the Telephone Preference service to say we do not accept cold calls but clearly that makes no difference to these off shore operations, although I do wonder whose UK based services we would be buying if they can so blatantly ignore the regulations in this way.
Anyone got any other suggestions for seeing them off?

Nothing. Apart from changing your number, as O/s calls are configured to avoid 'withheld' calling. There are interception devices that answer the call and act as an intermediary, but they really hack off legitimate callers.0

If you're on the TPS that is as much as you can do. I used to get similar calls but then they just stopped. The only other thing would be to record the names of the companies in question and report them to the regulator. They should be able to do something in the long-run, although my faith in companies and bodies to do anything right is particularly low at present!!!!0

I use caller display and an answerphone, if it is an out of country call it comes up on caller display as 'international' or 'number withheld', I let the answerphone cut in and they always disconnect, after a few calls they then give up.
If it is someone genuine that wants to get hold of you as they start to leave a message you can then take the call.0 -
I've said it before and I will say it again. Tell them to f*** off. Go wild on the phone with them screaming anything you feel like. It will soon stop. Instead of getting annoyed with it, have fun with it

Caller display and answering machine. And if you know the number you can block it with some Panasonic phones https://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5526084.htm
You can also set it to ONLY ring on certain numbers or no numbers.0 -
I've found answering and saying the person they ask for has died tends to get them off quickly and they don't tend to call back.
Thats said do check it isn;t your family/bank/insurer before you tell them this0 -
I had some of these ages back selling well GIVING me a FREE phone special offer only available to me...
Instantly i think its a contract phone, kept them on the phone for almost an hour going into every minute detail, what phones were on offer how many free texts and minutes, could i get a few extra added for the same price. etc etc.
I got bored then & mentioned i had only started my contract 2 weeks ago and thought a free upgrade was a bit early especially as it was an 18 month deal i just took out.
Undeterred they then asked if i knew anyone else that would like this special offer...
WHAT.. this special offer only available to me? Errr no sorry...
Never called again.0
