OP I think you should get your gf to come here as herself.

She is the one who needs to take direct responsibility for her affairs.

Until she does that I fear you will be fighting an uphill battle.

    Good luck anyway.

Cats like Heart and Liver which you can get cheaply from the butchers. Simply cu them into tiny pieces - will need to remove the valves etc from the heart and then fry it off - believe me - they LOVE it xx

So do some humans;). Excellent cheap meals.:j

I doubt that someone who spends £350 on ready meals for herself will be bothered to cook for the cat!

I think if the GF can't cook for herself that expecting her to start on offal for the cats might be asking a bit too much though... :)

    An offal lot too much.

    You're not kidneying.

Her heart wouldn't be in it.

She'll have to live 'er life differently.

  • Re the iPhone, after 9 months you can downgrade your tarrif, and the lowest is just under £35 (due to the lower VAT) so if she only has 8 months to run, she will be able to do this as they offer minimum 18 month contracts.

All good stuff guys. Thank you !

VetUk looks like a plan. Good suggestion.

I'll look into downgrading the iPhone contract too. Good information. Thanks.

Cats are going on a diet as of tonight!

Her food budget does include cosmetics, house cleaning products etc but even so, yes it certainly needs work. It's just a bad habit. She works 8am-8pm, sometimes till 10pm and eats preprepared food and shop bought sandwiches. Expensive but convenient. That will change with my help and she loves noodles so it'll be easy to convince her of that one ;-)

The main issue is her rent, yes. She moved to a better area .... Belsize Park, and while not up there with the likes of Chelsea and Kensington etc it isn't cheap. Problem is the flat contract is a 2 year tenancy "without" a break clause. I have all her paperwork and I've just checked. There is a get out clause if she finds another tenant which the landlord can't "unfairly refuse", but from what I can see it will cost her £2131.77 in lost agents commission/ fees. Might be wrong but that's how I'm reading it.

Mrs Tine, no offence but London is a bit of a different animal and the average for your example of a 3 bed terrace where she lives is £826,000. She just lives in a 1 bed flat and the average is still £345,000. The rent reflects this price and rents are strong at the moment. She couldn't afford a mortgage and also didn't have a deposit. I live in the cheap and not so cheerful east end and a 1 bed is still £270,000 average and even with that she wouldn't have safely qualified with her single income... plus if you go back 12-18 months when she was looking and you can add 15% onto that figure.

But yes, I agree, her cloud is still a bit fluffy but in her defence before she was ill she was earning a little over 70k. That's why she moved. However circumstances changed as they do (through illness in this case) and she lost her job. She's better now but she's had to take a 20k pay cut to get back on her feet but it's all relative. She's cut a few things out and with the help from this post she'll cut some more. She's not socialising at all and just thrown herself into work. The main issue is the rent..... and food.... and the cats....... oh and the interest on her credit cards.

She'll get there and you guys have been great :T !!!!
