Privacy settings

I'm having problems changing privacy settings on my User CP.

I follow the instructions given - but i think they need updating. I cant see how to:

- ensure that everyone is unable to see my profile page
- find out what my "reputation" is in the first place and then block anyone else from seeing what this "reputation" is

i DO still want anyone who wants to to be able to send me PM's - I just want to protect my privacy and ensure that I dont have an undeserved bad "reputation".

Could anyone please tell me exact step-by-step instructions as to how to do this privacy/reputation protection - without losing access for everyone to PM me please. (I'm afraid the general Forum instructions dont work - as the things they say to click on arent there to do so.)

Thank you.

MSE does not have 'reputation' settings in the way that TSR etc do. We have a thanks count - is that what you mean?

I'm not sure why you would not want people to see your profile page - unless you choose to put your contact details on there, it does not show anything particularly private?

pretty much anything on your profile can be accessed via the drop down box on your username
    which is nothing really
  • What I am trying to do is find a way to prevent a lurker from seeing:
    - what previous posts/threads I have done
    - what I am currently looking at
    etc

I do want to retain that facility for anyone to PM me - but prevent anyone seeing anything else.

You can even view the MSE Team's profiles, so I doubt they would allow you to be any different.

If it is such a problem, why not just start a new account?

You can not stop anyone seeing what posts you have done

If you do want people to see who are you dont post any information in your profile leave it blank.

If you are a lurker, I don't know what the OP is - you have five times more posts than them! ;)

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I have to respond - OP, if you really were/are a nonnymouse then you will know that nonnymouses use their anonymity for the good.

However, I can't see a single GOOD reason for keeping a profile private as you asked
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
