Suitable surface for Optical Mouse

Hiya,

I've got a USB Mouse for my laptop but I find that it's always jumpy no matter what surface I use - I'm using a newspaper under it at the moment because the desk surface is not suitable - it just jumps all over the place.

The kitchen table is the only one which works properly and doesn't produce any jumping - I'm stuck as to what to do because I can't (in theory) slice off a corner of the kitchen table to use as a mouse mat (without being killed by another member of my household :o) and my current mouse map seems to reflect a little of the red light resulting in, yes you guessed it... jumping.

All advice appreciated :D

I just use a sheet of white paper from the printer for an optical mouse. I change it when it gets dirty.

This has always worked well for me.

Something preferably one colour, and non reflective.

Having said that my old Logitech MX500, I used that all over the place, even on my leg when I was being lazy.

If you're having problems though try something dark, non reflective.

  • Hi I have an "optical mouse mat". It is very slightly textured and I find it great. I did have it on my desk initially but kept having to retrieve it by pulling it back all the time, now it stays in place. I think it was from Staples although I am not 100 % sure as I have had it for a good while now. I tried all sorts of ideas before I found this, but gladly I have found a solution. Hope it is of help to you.

I just use plain white paper, it also has the advantage that I can use it to jot things down on
