    We stayed here:

In Kowloon, close to Metro stop, short walk to Star Ferry. Reasonable price, older building, but completely modernised inside = decent sized rooms.
Would go there again without hesitation.

Happy 50th, you lucky thing. I love Hong Kong. Because we always do cheap and clean i would not be the best person to recommends a hotel. However there are so many things to do.

You must get an Octopus card and use the fantastic if crowded public transport.

Hong Kong tourist website will tell you of any events and they also have cultural activities these are free but have to be booked e.g a trip on a Junk, about Jade, Tai Chi etc. If your not exhausted after your flight check this out at the airport.

We went to see the pink dolphins, They are very endangered and their numbers were declining rapidly so they may no longer be there. www.hkdolphinwatch.com

Go up the Bank of China building.
See the firing of the Noonday gun.
Go up the Peaks on the tram.
    Go up the escalators.
Go to Lantau see Tian Tan Buddha, If its working go there by the cable car.
Lots of things can be done in one day.
Some lovely parks to walk in and see real life.
Some things in my view were not up to much, not that impressed with Aberdeen or Discovery Bay or the Fishing Village (a very confusing place) with a walk, places to eat and not much else.
    Have a foot massage.
Kowloon is very busy and buzzy, Hong Kong is busy but feels a lot less hassled.

Hong Kong feels very safe and we walked and wandered and cant wait to go back.

If you are planing on a lounge the one in Hong Kong airport was fab, it had hot & cold food, drinks and alcohol, showers and full body massage chairs.
