Help! Dog rolled in badger poo!

My mum's dog rolled in badger poo this morning  My mum didn't notice until they got home so now her car, the house, my mum and especially the dog all stink!

The dog has had a 20 minute shower with baby shampoo but it didn't really work as she still smells - can anyone suggest something that will get rid of the smell?

She's a shetland sheepdog and has as much fur than 3 normal shelties put together so I imagine she might need a few washes before the smell goes, and she hates baths - serves her right!

Tomato sauce neutralises it, then shampoo it off.

Thanks - is that tomato sauce as in ketchup?

Unfortunately the dog is mostly white so I guess she might end up pink - but she should have thought about that before getting all gross and stinky!

Ketchup is fine, but Passata is easier because it's runnier. She will go pink, but it does wear off.

    Cool, thanks guys!

I'll go and get some passata sauce in my lunch break and we'll see what happens. If she goes pink, I will definitely post a picture!

Try rubbing the sauce in and then letting it dry, then brushing it out rather than washing her again has pretty much the same effect.

I wish I had known this tip when my Akita rolled in a decomposing fox. Living foxs don't have a sweet smell, never mind one that has been dead a couple of months.
  • my dog rolls in everything... including many varieties of poop and on one memorable occasion, a long deceased badger...whilst wearing her brand new dog coat, and on a walk almost an hours drive from home... that was not a nice drive home, expecialy as it was blooming freezing and I had to have the windows down all the way!

I have tried ketchup, she did end up pink on her white bits - it reduced the smell, but I do wonder how much of that was down to the fact that the vinegar drowned it out!
