Hi,
Ive been directed over here from the techie board, here is my original post:
(quote)Advice needed please:
I have an Asda Dual DLCD3221 flat screen tv, purchased in March 2008. Since earlier on today the screen is tinged with red and green blotches, on peoples faces etc.
I contacted Asda, who told me it is out of warranty and to try changing the scarts, I have but to no avail.
This happened once last year but seemed to right itself.(quote)
Im not sure which way to go now and would appreciate any advice.

I take it is being fed from a set top box of some sort? Can you try it on analogue?0

It is the same on analogue, dvd, sky. Its hard to describe but the picture is like a digital weather map.
Sort of similar to this:

That could helpSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Wrote a letter to Asda stating soga, had a phone call from them this a.m. I have been told to get an independant report on the TV, if they can tell that the falt was there when the TV was purchased, Asda will give me a partial refund (20% less for each year of use, the TV is 18mth old) and they will re-imburse me the report fee.
If the report says that the fault has only just developed then I get nothing.
Im worried about what to do now, I dont fancy shelling out money to get a report when I could be out of pocket.
Any advice?0 -

Asda are right that the burden of proof lies with you.
To be entitled to a refund/replacement/repair you either need to prove it was inherently faulty or not durable for the price paid.
Inherently faulty means that the design or components were not of a suitable nature that meant it was bound to prematurely fail. Durability means that based on the price paid it would be reasonable to expect it to last longer. This doesnt mean completely fault free but that you wont be paying for repairs you wouldnt expect.
Unfortunately without a report your likely to fail in any court claim as the burden is on you.
Best bet is to take it into a small TV repairers and ask for a free quote/estimate of the fault and repair. Once you have this casually see if they will issue a report for a fee that will give you a case.0
