LaCie Firewall External Drive problem

My friend's LaCie Firewall external drive has curiously stopped working. She said there seems to be power to it but the power light at the front is not lighting up and the icon is missing from the computer which is a Macintosh. The first thing I asked was had she checked the fuse and she said she'd tried it on a lamp and it was OK.
Any ideas anyone please?
