  • A quick update - I've worked out the total load of all the devices being powered and the total is definately below the max load. There is a good deal of tolerance also since not all devices would be on at the same time.

yes, but not practical at all!

can a spur socket be added to a fused switch? there is an existing one which is closer than the closest existing socket.

If the fcu is on the ring circuit then yes a spur can be added to that, but if the fcu is itself a spur then no - spurs cant be added onto spurs

hi, i guess that makes sense, but surely the fcu has terminals for load so an additional socket could simply be connected here?

thought i should add - the fcu has nothing connected. so it it makes sense to me now that a socket is supposed to be connected to it!

Not ideal but could be done

thanks for that... can i ask why it's not ideal? It would be safe wouldn't it and the fcu provides an easy way to switch off in the event of a problem.

If you were to move out say and the new occupier put a socket on the fcu then it would become a spur on a spur, thats why not ideal.
Safe yes as the fcu fuse would blow if over loaded.

Hi, thanks for that. I guess I'll get it wired into the fcu then, but get it removed if we ever move!

Thank you all for your advice!

UPDATE! I'd like to get the fcu replaced with a double (or triple) switch so that I can control the new sockets without access them. Is this possible? I can't see fcu with more than one switch.... but since anything plugged in will be fused could any switch be used?
